The Australian Powerball Lottery
THE AUSTRALIAN POWERBALL LOTTERY (OZ POWERBALL)
History Of Oz Powerball:
The Australian Powerball, or Oz Powerball as it has become known as was launched in May 1996. It is a lottery game which is identical in structure to the very successful and hugely popular American Powerball. In April 2018 the game format was updated to incorporate a total of eight numbers, which vastly improves the odds of securing a tier win. The game uses two separate ball barrels during the draws, and players must choose two separate sets of numbers – the standard drawing numbers, as well as the Powerball numbers. |

How To Play Oz Powerball:
To play the Oz Powerball game, participants need to select a total of eight numbers: seven from a possible 35 (the standard ball barrel), as well as only one from a possible 20 (the Powerball number). Correctly matching up all eight numbers to the drawn numbers, will result in a full jackpot win. The biggest jackpot won to date is currently $80 million (scooped up during the 30 July 2009 draw), which was equally split between two ticket holders. The game offers eight prize divisions. The minimum requirement to win a prize is to match two standard balls plus the Powerball. The top prize requires a player to match all eight numbers – seven numbers plus the all-important Powerball.
What makes the Oz Powerball game unique and filled with potential, is that the changes made to the game format (implemented in March 2013) allow the jackpot to increase in increments of $10 million once the jackpot has either reached or surpassed the $10 million mark. So effectively, once it has reached that mark, it will automatically double if the draw results yield no winners. It is also interesting to note that, as with the Oz Lotto, the Oz Powerball game also has a limit of 25 consecutive rollovers before the jackpot prize gets filtered to the second tier prize division.
The Oz Powerball draws take place once a week, every Thursday at 20h30 (AEST).
